Beaches

The beach at Westenschouwen is located on the North Sea and has a very special view. Here you can look straight at the Oosterscheldekering, also called the eighth wonder of the world. The beaches are very extensive, clean and the quality of the bathing water is good. The beach has received the Blue Flag for this for years in a row. The beaches are divided into different types. There are family beaches, natural beaches, (water) sports beaches and zones for naturism and extreme sports. The rules are on signs located at each crossing.

Boswachterij

WesterschouwenVisit Boswachterij Westerschouwen, the largest forest in Zeeland, and discover the various animals that live there. Walk the gnome path with your children and who knows, you might come across gnomes. You can experience bigger adventures on the mountain bike route or in the adjacent climbing forest. The forest has large differences in height due to its location close to the dunes. It provides a tough challenge if you go hiking, cycling or horseback riding here. At the Excursion Barn at the main entrance of the forest, on the Kraaijensteinweg in Burgh-Haamstede, you will find more information about the area and the various marked routes.

Zeepeduinen

This nature reserve is accessible all year round and well worth a visit. Put on your walking shoes and choose from various walking routes that lead you over dunes, along lakes and colorful plants. With a bit of luck you will see the natural grazers of the Zeepeduinen: a herd of Shetland ponies. On the high dune is a command post from the Second World War: the Walvisbunker. Hundreds of bats hibernate in dozens of smaller bunkers. In the summer months you can join one of the bunker excursions. An exciting outing for young and old.

Meeuwenduinen

This is one of the most beautiful dune areas of Schouwen-Duiveland. In the Meeuwenduinen you will find young bare dunes, moss plains and dune grasslands. In addition to rabbits and songbirds, there are also the namesakes of this area: seagulls. Thousands of lesser black-backed gulls and herring gulls breed there every year. Shetland ponies, together with deer and deer, ensure that sea thistles and wild orchids can bloom here.
